Summer School on Low EMF Communications and Networking
University of Cantabria, 6th-9th July 2015

Is it possible to reduce the exposure to the electromagneticfields induced by wireless networks, while keeping their capacityand offering the same quality of experience?

LEXNET partners are organizing a Summer School on Low EMF Communications and Networking, which will be hosted by University of Cantabria (July, 6th-9th), with the main objective of providing answers to the question posed above.
The course will entail 11 ground-breaking talks, in which key experts in the area will describe the novel techniques that can be used in forthcoming wireless communication technologies and networks to mitigate exposure to EMF. The course will describe how stochastic methods can be used to assess human exposure to EMF, introduce the most recent state of the art on the low EMF radio technologies, and discuss avant-garde network management mechanisms, including how to effectively deal with malicious smart-phone applications. The course will also feature two talks introducing both measurement and simulation techniques that can be used to assess EMF exposure.

Please visit the summer school webpage for further details.

  • The European Commission scientific leader, Dr. Bernard Barani, will give a holistic view on how the European “Horizon 2020” program will define and coin the “landscape” of future ICT innovation and evolution.
  • 3 industrial key-leaders from Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, and Bell Labs (GreenTouch Consortium), i.e., Dr. Didier Bourse, Dr. Afif Osseiran, and Dr. Thierry Klein, will explain and discuss how the 5G technologies (e.g. European 5G PPP), energy challenges and future ICT can deeply interact with each other.
  • From the angles of research, up to 16 academic/technical leaders, i.e., Prof. Luis Muñoz, Prof. Hanna Bogucka, Prof. Luiz DaSilva, Prof. Mérouane Debbah, Prof. Eryk Dutkiewicz, Prof. Damien Ernst, Prof. David Grace, Prof. Aawatif Hayar, Mr. Erik Luther, Prof. Michela Meo, Dr. Alain AM Mourad, Dr. Christine Morin, Prof. Loutfi Nuaymi, Prof. Sofie Pollin, Dr. Sumei Sun, and Prof. Honggang Zhang, will give various talks covering full-span expertise backgrounds with sufficient diversities/depth, respectively.

(2)     In order to enjoy the famous sunny “atmosphere” in Bretagne of France, a social dinner/dancing under the sunset at the prestigious French castle Château d'Apigné ( and a touring to Mont Saint-Michel (UNESCO World Heritage Site, have been scheduled.

(3)     Thanks to the generous sponsoring from local government, industry and national funding, junior researchers (especially students) are STRONGLY encouraged to participate this event with very lower registration payment, talking with the key-leaders as well as sharing their ideas and visions for future.

See you at the Next-GWiN 2014!
